Synopsis from Macmillan Publishers:

“Don’t worry about a thing,” Granny said. “The cat will be just fine.”

When Granny comes to cat-sit, she anticipates a little work, a few snuggles, and a good night’s sleep. What she doesn’t expect is CHAOS.

After Granny misplaces her glasses, she accidentally lets the cat out…and a raccoon in…a raccoon that looks a little like a cat. What follows is a raucous escapade that leaves in its wake one very confused Granny, one very upset cat, and one very satisfied raccoon.

My Experience: I started reading Kitty for my toddler’s bedtime on 3/16/2022 and we finished it that same night. We have since read it again and again at every nap time and bedtime per her request. A cute read! I was surprised by the cat the first time and loved it every time I read it. My toddler loved this story so much. The illustrations were fantastic. My toddler loved the cat’s big appetite, stretching out on the floor to eat. She loved the cat’s messy eating of the cupcake. The cat’s miserable looking as it came out of the bath was so cute. My toddler liked telling off “No” to the cat as it reached for granny’s salad and the fish bowl. What the cat did while granny slept was a huge surprise!

This book followed grandma as she waved goodbye to a family she’s cat sitting for. As she head inside the house, she thought to herself how convenient that everything she needed was written on a note on the fridge. Something must have scared the cat because out of nowhere, the cat jumped from the top of the fridge and granny lost her balance. Her eyeglasses flew off. The note on the fridge fell down into a bowl of water. The note is now smudged including the drawing of the cat. Luckily granny can still read the note and it indicated that she shouldn’t let the cat out. When granny looked up (without her glasses) she saw the cat (resembling to the drawing on the note) was outside so she went to grab some cat food to coax it inside. She went on to feed the cat and kept the cat out of causing havoc in the house. At the end of the book, granny’s cat sitting experience gave her second thoughts about having a pet.

Kitty was well written and illustrated. That humor was unforgettable when the cat was unknowingly switched because granny didn’t have her glasses on and couldn’t tell which cat she was supposed to be watching out for! The condition of the house granny left to the owners when they came home, it would have been good to see the owner’s reactions. But since the story was about grandma, so it was funny to see her hurry out of the house. My toddler and I loved the last page, how so many “cats” would love to follow granny home! An excellent read and I highly recommend everyone to read this book!

I rate it 5 stars!
